Nicaragua has a rich and diverse culture. From pre-colombian times the natives produced pottery and petroglyphs reflecting the traditions of native peoples in South and Central America. In San Juan del Sur petroglyphs have been discovered but the most prolific examples exist on the Island of Ometepe. The Ometepe Petroglyph Project was a volunteer field survey of the Maderas half of Ometepe from 1995–1999. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ometepe
Although a wide range of painting styles exists in the country the modern forms are strongly influenced by primitivism and local movements started by Ernesto Cardenal in the Island of Solentiname. The playful style depicts many topics including colinization, romance, life in small towns, festivals and anything related to life in Nicaragua. We look forward to more expressions of painting styles as creativity flourishes.
