Grape Expectations at La Carreta

August 17, 2016

La Carreta hosted its first wine pairing and it was determined to impress.  Along with its grilled and seafood entrees the restaurant has a separate German menu inspired by its German manager Clause.  The evening displayed German precision in the service and carefully thought out pairings.

The schnitzel paired perfectly with the Viña Maipo Sauvignon Blac Reserve which provided a perfect contrast to the flavorful pork.  Highly rated Palo Alto’s red blend (Cabernet Sauvignon/Carmenere/Shiraz) complemented the bratwurst beautifully as it cut through the richness of the sausage.  The crowd’s favorite wine, however, was the Casillero del Diablo Syrah (or is it Shiraz) that provided a silky texture with complex flavors to combine precisely with a filet mignon in mushroom sauce.  Everyone delighted in the evening as they joined tables to form a long community of epicurean devotees at their new found shrine of wonderful flavors.
